In another significant development, the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested three more individuals in connection with the murder of producer and businessman DJ Sumbody. This follows the arrest of a businessman at his Sandton home on Monday, 21 July 2025.
The arrests were made amid reports that the police were investigating a possible link between DJ Sumbody’s murder and Tebogo Thobejane’s failed assassination. DJ Sumbody was shot and killed in Woodmead, Johannesburg, on 20 November 2022. His loved ones and fans are hopeful they will finally get closure as justice will be served.

When are DJ Sumbody's alleged killers appearing in court?
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, shared that the three hitmen and the alleged mastermind made their first court appearance on Tuesday, 22 July 2025. She said the quartet appeared before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court facing three counts of murder for the deaths of DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza. The suspects will also face an additional conspiracy to commit murder charge.

The four men were all arrested on Monday, 21 July 2025, in Gauteng. Three of the suspects are believed to have carried out the hit, while one of the accused is believed to have paid them to kill DJ Sumbody.
Three of the suspects abandoned bail while one suspect will apply for bail when proceedings resume on Tuesday, 29 July 2025. Two of the hitmen are linked to the attempted murder of Tebogo Thobejane and the murder of an engineer from Vereeniging.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said ballistic examinations linked the firearms used in the murder of DJ Sumbody to ten other cases. She said:
"At this stage all those four firearms including the one AK-47, is linked to at least ten high profile cases that include murder as well as attempted murder."
Who was arrested for killing DJ Sumbody?
While the police have not disclosed the identities of the individuals accused of killing DJ Sumbody, they have revealed that the suspects are between the ages of 45 and 60. Police say the weapon used to kill DJ Sumbody was seized and is linked to other murders.
On Monday, 21 July 2025, News24 reported that businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe had been arrested for the murder of DJ Sumbody. Molefe was arrested while out on bail for an unrelated murder case.

The businessman is waiting to go on trial for orchestrating the assassination of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart in April 2023. Molefe is accused of contracting alleged hitmen Michael Pule Tau, Musa Kekana and Tiego Floyd Mabusela to assassinate Swart. Swart was killed after the company he was working for unearthed corruption related to Transnet and tenders.
DJ Sumbody’s family perform cleansing ritual at crime scene
After DJ Sumbody's murder, his family performed a cleansing ritual at the crime scene, as reported by Briefly News.
TikTok user @angelsebothoma316 posted a video of DJ Sumbody's family at the crime scene performing a cleansing ceremony.
The ceremony is a spiritual practice where many believe that the spirit of the dead must be collected from the place of death. This is done to ensure that the deceased can rest peacefully, especially if they died violently.
One relative was overcome with grief and broke down during the sad TikTok video. The police were present with the family, and it looked like the car with countless bullet holes was about to be towed.
