Award-winning South African filmmaker Mandla N is looking forward to the premiere of his new telenovela, Black Gold, on BET.

Produced by Mandla N’s multi-award-winning production company, Black Gold was launched at an event on Wednesday, 13 August 2025. Mandla N shared pictures from the event and the telenovela’s official teaser trailer, giving fans a sneak peek of what they can expect from the show with a star-studded cast.

Taking to his Instagram account on Thursday, 14 August 2025, the filmmaker, who had a messy divorce, shared pictures with some of the cast of Black Gold and guests that attended the official launch of Black Gold. The post was captioned:

On Monday, 11 August 2025, Mandla N shared the Black Gold teaser trailer. The post was captioned:

What is Black Gold about?

Black Gold will make its premiere on Monday, 18 August 2025, on BET, DStv Channel 129 at 6:30 pm. The telenovela will air every Monday to Thursday with evening repeats at 9:30 pm.

The film will centre around Amandla Zungu, played by Nomalanga Shozi, who is cast from her home after being falsely accused of murdering her father, Bhekumbuso Zungu, played by Ernest Ndlovu.

The cast includes Zamani Mbatha, who was recently hailed for his performance on Shaka iLembe, as well as Sello Maake kaNcube and Dawn Thandeka King as secret lovers. Warren Masemola joins the cast as a rebel leader named Kotsi.

Mandla N celebrates 25 years as a filmmaker

In 2023, Briefly News reported that Mandla N celebrated twenty-two years in the South African film and television industry.

The award-winning actor and director was reportedly working on a brand new show to celebrate this big milestone of decades in the industry. Mandla has produced several top shows in Mzansi, including City Ses’la, Lockdown, Diep City, and Black Door, just to mention a few.
