Have you ever wondered where the name Scorpion Kings comes from? Look no further because DJ Maphorisa has finally shared the origin story.

The DJ/ producer is one half of the celebrated Amapiano duo along with fellow hitmaker Kabza De Small, with whom he started collaborating between 2019 and 2020.

Speaking in an interview with Metro FM on 12 August 2025, Porry spoke about how he and Kabza solidified their brand:

"Kabza had a plan to drop an album. We had a few songs that were hot at the time, and I compiled a quick list and told them, 'Let's drop this and call it Scorpion Kings."

Porry revealed that he used the zodiac sign Scorpio as inspiration for their first project, the Scorpion Kings EP, only to realise that while their birthdays are a week apart, they did not share a star sign:

"I'm a Scorpio, but Kabza was born on the 26th of November (Sagittarius). I was just rushing through everything and didn't give it much thought."

They are set to celebrate their partnership with their biggest collaboration yet, the Scorpion Kings Live with Friends concert on 29 August, which will unite all of Africa's biggest stars under one roof.
