Seasoned South African rapper Nasty C has bounced back with a new album titled Free.
The album marks a new beginning for the rapper, who previously confirmed that he severed ties with multi-national record label Def Jam. His new album, Free, was officially released on digital streaming platforms on Friday, 12 September 2025.
Nasty C shared the meaning behind the title of his 5th album and why Free is important to him as an artist.

Nasty C shared why he named the new album Free. He explained that the title is a testament to his newfound freedom as an independent artist. The father of one shared that the album marks a personal milestone as his first release on his own record label, Tall Racks and distributed through Platoon. Coincidentally, the album reportedly made history on Spotify hours after its release.

“With this album, I feel very free,” Nasty C explained before adding, “Free to create and express myself however I want. I’ve grown so much and learned so much over the years that releasing this project on my own label, Tall Racks, just means a lot. It speaks to freedom.”
The 16-track album features the talents of Blxckie on one of the standout singles released in the lead-up to the album, close friend Tellaman, Tshego and DJ Speedsta. Fellow Durban-born rapper Usimamane, who was believed to be beefing with Nasty C’s nemesis A-Reece, also made it on the project with a song titled Soft.

Nasty C breaks down new song Head Up
Nasty C also explained the meaning behind the introspective song Head Up. He said the song is a reminder to himself and his fans to persevere regardless of the circumstances.

“’Head Up’ is a song about trusting and believing in yourself,” Nasty C said and added, “It’s a reminder to be patient with yourself, especially in moments when life feels heavy. It’s easy to get discouraged when you see others crushing it while you’re struggling, but the song encourages you to hold on — to trust, love, and give yourself the grace you need to get through those times.”
Ahead of the release of his 5th album, Nasty C worked as a mechanic and as a cashier at Spar. The award-winning South African artist explained that these weren't a marketing gimmick but a living experiment that mirrors being free.
Nasty C nominated for another award
In more entertainment news, Briefly News reported that Nasty C bagged another nomination at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
The 28-year-old rapper and songwriter was nominated in a category with fellow South African musicians Master KG, Tyler ICU and Kabza De Small.
