Retired news anchor Noxolo Grootboom recently opened up about retirement and being featured in the Nando's advert.

Grootboom previously made headlines when she was granted an honorary doctorate at the Nelson Mandela University.

The popular isiXhosa caused a buzz on social media when Inimba actress Zenande Mfenyane shared her opinion about the legendary news anchor.

Grootboom shared in an interview with The Citizen on Friday, 14 November 2025, at the launch of Nando's campaign that since she retired, South Africa hasn’t stopped showering her with love.

The publication adds that the retired newsreader leads the cast of Nando’s latest ad that brings the full orchestra to the table. Grootboom stars opposite award-winning rapper Kwesta and TikToker Rachel.

The former isiXhosa broadcaster reveals that she asked Nando's what they actually wanted when they started filming the ad.

“Do you want my news voice? And they laughed, but they said, ‘give us the news voice, give us the jolly you’. And it actually ended up being me experimenting with my voice, giving them all kinds of voices, having fun.
“It kind of gave me an indication that besides doing news, of course, preaching, motivational speeches, I can do a little bit of fun,” said Grootboom.

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela shared on his X account on Friday, 14 November 2025, that Grootboom has been featured in the latest Nando's advertisement.

"The iconic and gracious Mam'Noxolo 'Ndini thanda nonke emakhaya' Grootboom is the lead feature in @NandosSA's new TVC taglined 'Oh What A Place!'. This marks her first-ever commercial brand ad in a career spanning 40 years," said Mphela.

Nando’s pokes fun at Coldplay's cheating drama

In more entertainment news, Briefly News previously reported that after an alleged cheating scandal at a Coldplay concert in America went viral, Nando's decided to join in on the fun.

The restaurant revealed a poster that humorously hinted at what had allegedly taken place between Astronomer's CEO Andy Byron and HR Executive Kristin Cabot.

A few social media users on Reddit loved the cheekiness Nando's had displayed and pointed out that the poster wasn't from a South African franchise.
