Lasizwe Dambuza served face and edges when he casually uploaded a close-up video selfie, that left Mzansi double-tapping in disbelief. Gone was the longer, tousled look fans had grown used to; in its place sat a clean, low-fade masterpiece and tapered sides.
The lighting hit just right, the skin glowed, and the confidence radiated. He captioned it: “New Beginnings = new hairstyle.”
Hairstylist Vicky Eghan from Vicky's Hair Salon in the South Coast shared with Briefly News journalist Jessica Gcaba her experience with clients who often get haircuts.
"Most of my clients associate getting their hair cut with new beginnings and growth," she explained. "When they mark a new season in their lives, they let go of the weight from their hair, and the new hair that grows represents their new selves," she emphasised.

Why the haircut feel bigger than hair
In Lasizwe’s world, a haircut has never just been a haircut. From the blonde buzz phases to the long hair experiments, every change has coincided with a new season: new show, new deal, new love, or new mindset.

This particular fade arrived months after his public fallout with MultiChoice over alleged unpaid guests on his YouTube series Drink or Tell the Truth, a drama that saw him trend for days and ultimately walk away from traditional TV constraints.
Followers are now reading the crisp lineup as a visual full-stop on that chapter and a fresh page for whatever independent moves come next.
The man behind the fade
For context, Lasizwe Dambuza, who previously said he had a fallout with his brother, built an empire from Soweto selfies, turning teenage pranks into a multi-million-rand brand that includes YouTube silver and gold play buttons, Forbes 30 Under 30 recognition, and hosting gigs across MTV, BET, and SABC.
At 27, he has deals with mainstream television services that air his shows, including Awkward Dates. Lasizwe's R10 Goes a Long Way initiative has funded hundreds of students, proving his philanthropic side.
Lasizwe's #R10GoesALongWay initiative
Lasizwe's R10 initiative, formally known as #R10GoesALongWay, was a 2021 social media campaign he started to help underprivileged students pay their university registration fees. The initiative encouraged the public to donate as little as R10, and it reportedly rapidly raised over R2 million. Funds were collected and distributed through a partnership with the organisation Fundi to help students who had the marks to qualify but lacked the funds for registration.
