A man spotted at the funeral of Amapiano star Scebi Dlamini on Saturday, 15 August 2026, has sent social media into a spin after TikTok users claimed he bore an uncanny resemblance to the late Mpura.
The clip spread quickly from TikTok to X, with the caption "Mpura uvelaphi manje 🥺", which is loosely translated as "Where did Mpura come from?" Tugging at the heartstrings of Amapiano fans across Mzansi.
What happened to Mpura?
Mpura, born Mongezi Thomas Stuurman, died on 7 August 2021 at just 25 years old in a devastating car accident while travelling to a concert in Rustenburg, North West. The crash also claimed the lives of fellow Amapiano artist Killer Kau, Khanya "The Voice" Hadebe, DJ Thando Tot, and TD, among others.

The sighting carried extra emotional weight because of when and where it happened. Scebi 'Inkosi Yamagcokama' Dlamini, who was 29 years old, also died in a car accident while on his way to a music festival in Richards Bay. His funeral brought together thousands of fans and industry figures who were already mourning yet another young Amapiano talent taken too soon.
Seeing a face that reminded them of Mpura at such a gathering proved too much for many fans to process quietly online.

Mzansi on the fence
While most users were quick to accept it was simply a look-alike, the resemblance was enough to stop people mid-scroll. The consensus settled on the man being a doppelgänger rather than anything more, but that did little to stop fans from feeling the emotions of seeing a familiar face in the crowd on such a sombre day.
X user @Triciakoki, who shared the post, summed up the collective feeling of disbelief.

Fellow artists cancel shows for Scebi
