The maskandi community has come together in grief as artists across the genre set aside their professional commitments to honour one of their own. Scebi Dlamini, known by his stage name Inkosi Yamagcokama, died in a car accident at just 29 years old while travelling to a music festival in Richards Bay. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, 15 August 2026, at Mzisho Stadium in Msinga, in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
Artists put career milestones on hold
The loss has prompted a wave of solidarity from within the maskandi world. Sfanele Zulu, widely known as Mzuku, cancelled an upcoming Cape Town show to make time to be present and mourn a fellow musician. Thandeka Radebe also made a significant sacrifice, postponing the release of her highly anticipated album Kuyoshiyana Ukwenza, which had originally been set for 15 August. She described the decision as a mark of respect for Inkosi Yamagcokama.
Artists travel to Msinga with gifts and condolences
Beyond cancelling shows, many artists made the journey to Msinga in person to be with Scebi's family. Fellow maskandi musician Mjolisi was among those who travelled to the family home, going far beyond words of comfort. In a gesture that carries deep cultural weight in Zulu tradition, Mjolisi donated two cows and a sheep to help the family cover the costs of the funeral arrangements.

Funeral details announced
In a previous report from Briefly News, Gumu Gupta Langa will be laid to rest on Friday, 14 August, at his homestead in Embangweni, eMsinga.
Inkos’yamagcokama’s funeral will take place on Saturday, 15 August, at Fabeni Stadium in KwaDungamanzi.
