The South African actress and media personality has opened up about why she took a significant step back from the spotlight over the past two and a half years, revealing that the decision was deliberate and deeply personal.

Much of that time was spent growing her skincare brand, Lelive, which she describes as a rewarding entrepreneurial chapter that required her full focus to succeed.

Amanda's life away from the camera

Although her last major acting credit was in the 2022 horror film ‘The Domestic’, Amanda never fully disappeared from the industry. She continued to work as a commercial voice-over artist and brand partner, including on Vodacom's digital campaigns and advertisements. That quiet consistency has now earned her a nomination at the second annual South African Voice-Over Awards, where she is up for Best Commercial Voice-Over Performance on Radio alongside Thato Moatlhodi, Brionne Olsen, and Mthunzi Sibisi.

What surprised her most about retreating from public life, however, was the freedom it offered. Speaking to TimesLive, she described the privacy as profound, explaining that stepping away from constant public attention made her feel far more like an ordinary person. She believes that sense of calm was actually crucial to building a successful business.

Amanda's return to television

Now that Lelive is more established and running with greater automation, Amanda feels the timing is right to return to her first love. She is set to appear on ‘Tropika Island of Treasure’, which is airing this month, and has also confirmed that a Netflix feature film is in the pipeline.

Amanda has been candid about the broader lesson her journey has taught her: diversifying income is no longer optional in today's economic climate. She stressed, though, that any additional opportunities should complement rather than compete with one's core purpose or career. For her, voice-over work and entrepreneurship were never distractions from acting, but extensions of the same drive.
