Emtee's Father Phathiswa Reacts After Rapper Gets R2000 Bail at Midrand Court

Emtee's family is breathing a sigh of relief after the rapper walked out of the Midrand Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, having been granted bail of R2 000 following a 16-day stint at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre.

His father, Phathiswa Ndevu, said the rapper has learned his lesson and that the family is simply glad to have him home. The sentiment was shared by the wider Ndevu household, who endured a tough stretch while the rapper remained in custody.

Nicole Chinsamy Explains Her Decision

Estranged wife Nicole Chinsamy had submitted a withdrawal of the charges on Monday before taking the witness stand on Wednesday to address the court directly. She told the court: "I made the decision to withdraw the case. I'd like to close this chapter and move on with my life."

Although bail was granted, the court attached firm conditions to Emtee's release, among them a restriction on social media activity relating to Chinsamy.

Financial Toll on the Ndevu Family

Emtee, whose full name is Mthembeni Ndevu, exercised his right to remain silent throughout the proceedings. His lawyer, Kwena Manamela, submitted an affidavit to the court painting a picture of the financial pressure the arrest had placed on his loved ones.

The document named his parents, Lumikile and Phathiswa Ndevu, as well as his three minor children as those most affected. According to the affidavit, rental payments and school fees had reportedly fallen behind during the weeks he spent in custody, adding urgency to the bail application.

With the case withdrawn and bail secured, the family can now begin picking up the pieces after what has clearly been a trying few weeks for everyone involved.
