A Grade 12 learner's bold social media campaign paid off in the most memorable way when Izingane Zesthembu star Abongwe Mseleku showed up as her matric dance date, dressed to the nines.

Lungile Mbonani became a familiar face on TikTok after launching a series of videos directed at the Izingane Zes'thembu star, each one asking him to accompany her to her matric dance. It took five videos in total — by the time the fifth dropped, Lungile had gone viral, with fans flooding the reality TV star's mentions and doing much of the convincing for her. He eventually agreed, and the pair made good on the promise.

Photos shared on Facebook by Yolokazi Chagi on Thursday, 24 September 2026, and later reshared on X by @zeek50101, show the two dressed in coordinated burgundy formal outfits. The side-by-side "how it started vs how it's going" format used in the post contrasted Lungile's early TikTok plea — where she held up a sign reading "Day 5 of Asking Out Abongwe Mseleku to be my MD partner" — with the polished matric dance photos.

"Thank you, Abongwe Mseleku, for honouring your pledge, my sweet angel pie," Yolokazi wrote in the caption, calling the outcome "history."
