Veteran South African actor Sello Maake Ka-Ncube is stepping off the screen and into the community with a meaningful new venture. The celebrated star has announced the launch of his Men Of Purpose foundation, which is set to officially open its doors on 17 October 2026 at the Sakhumzi Zoo Lake Restaurant.
Speaking to DRUM about the motivation behind the initiative, Sello pointed to a widening gap in the relationships between older and younger men in South African society. He described the foundation as a direct response to what he sees as a crisis in male mentorship.
"We need to restore mentorship between generations, the value of responsible fatherhood, respect for family and community, and the idea that being a man is also about service," he said. "Traditionally, boys learned from the men around them: fathers, uncles, grandfathers, teachers, and community leaders. Many young men today do not have enough of those relationships. Men of Purpose wants to create a space where that knowledge and experience can happen again," the publication quoted him saying.

Men of Purpose and the boy child
Sello was candid about the importance of not leaving the boy child out of the broader national conversation around gender and family. He wants the foundation to challenge men to take an honest look at their own behaviour and attitudes, creating room for genuine growth rather than defensiveness.
"We need men to ask themselves difficult questions: What kind of father am I? What kind of partner am I? How do I treat people when I am under pressure? What am I teaching the young men watching me?" he said. "That reflection is necessary because we cannot build stronger families."
The actor was equally open about his own journey, framing the foundation as a labour of love built on personal experience rather than theory. He acknowledged that imperfection is universal, using his own faults and hard lessons as a starting point for the conversations he hopes the foundation will spark.
Men of Purpose is reportedly designed to give men the opportunity to examine what society has come to accept as normal, encouraging participants to interrogate inherited ideas about masculinity, fatherhood, and responsibility.
