Hundreds of people lined up on Thursday outside Windsor Castle, as the landmark royal residence and its historic St George's Chapel, where Queen Elizabeth II was buried last week, re-opened following her death. Royal palaces and residences have been closed since the death of the queen on September 8, including Windsor, west of London, where she spent much of her time.

Taliban forces on Thursday used gunfire to disperse a women's rally in the Afghan capital supporting protests in Iran over the death of a woman in morality police custody. An organiser, speaking anonymously, told AFP the rally was staged "to show our support and solidarity with the people of Iran and the women victims of the Taliban in Afghanistan".
