South African Teen Invited to Spain for Sports Opportunity Starts Business to Raise R60k

A teenager, Rea, presented with the chance to play basketball overseas, is determined to make it despite financial challenges. The young South African turned to her fellow countrymen, looking for support to make her dreams come true.

So far, the girl has managed to raise at least 50% of the money she needs to make her dream come true. The teen earned people's admiration as she started a business to help her get to Spain.

A TikToker @reaforspain shared that she was officially invited to play on a basketball tour in Spain. The 14-year-old explained that her parents were not able to help, so she started a bracelet business to raise funds. The young lady hoped that selling them at R20 apiece would help her raise R60,000 faster with people's help. In addition, she also started fundraising campaigns.

So far, Rea has raised R31,000 with Backabuddy and Ko-fi for international donors. She has also been delivering bracelets that people bought from her. On 23 July 2025, the young lady only had seven days left to raise the money for Spain. For her final effort, she started reaching out to influential people for help, including Minister of Sports Gayton Mackenzie. The girl expressed her gratitude to everyone who has donated as she continues to campaign for the rest of the funds.
