Have you ever wondered what Durban would look like if it weren't affected by corruption? An artificial intelligence (AI) depiction of a corruption-free city from ChatGPT made the rounds on the internet, taking locals down memory lane.
As with most cities in the country, corruption, unfortunately, thrives.
In July, 2025, DJ Warras made allegations that Durban police were involved in corrupt activities, such as being on the payroll of criminals and drug dealers. This is only one of many allegations the city faces.
On 25 August, 2025, the TikTok account @031howzit uploaded five pictures showing a bright and clean version of the KwaZulu-Natal city. A water park and roads were filled with AI residents enjoying what the virtual Durban had to offer.

Hundreds of local social media users gathered in the comment section to talk about corruption in the city, while others reminisced about what the city used to be like.
