A woman found an activity at Clifton Beach in Cape Town that costs R100 and shared it on 6 November 2025. The video went viral, but left people confused about the pricing. @Cape Town Getaway posted the video with the caption:
"Solo date or with a partner, who would you do this activity with? @zar_reviews Kayak Clifton is located in Clifton, and we had so much fun giving it a try on a hot summer's day. For R100 you get a life jacket, a 30-minute riding experience and a cellphone protector for all your content needs."
The video showed her and her partner coming across a tent setup where Kayak Clifton was set up on the beach. You rent out the kayak with life jackets for just R100 for 30 minutes on the kayak and in the water. They also give you a cellphone protector to protect your phone while you're on the water, in case there are any accidents and you end up dropping your phone by mistake.
The Kayak Clifton website shows they also offer a 1.5-hour kayak tour when conditions are very good, which happens approximately 100 days a year between September and May. Pricing for tours starts at R450 for South Africans and R500 for non-South Africans.

Skills needed for kayaking
According to kayaking experts on Paddling Magazine, to go kayaking, you only need a few basics: a beginner-friendly kayak, a paddle, a lifejacket, a whistle, your phone in a waterproof case and clothing that suits the weather and water.
Before you start paddling, you should get comfortable in your kayak. Make sure your foot braces are set so your knees are slightly bent and relaxed.
There are a few easy ways to get into a kayak, like straddling it, using something for support or sliding in from the side.
The forward stroke is what you will use most to move ahead, and getting good at it makes the whole experience more fun. Sweep strokes help you turn your kayak, whether you are moving forward or backwards.
If you are new, it is best to start on calm water like quiet lakes, bays or slow rivers. Pick a day with gentle weather and keep your first few outings short while you get the hang of things.
