When the tax bill hits harder than expected

Total deductions reached R42,529.45 for the month. The lion's share of that went straight to Pay As You Earn (PAYE) income tax, which came to R42,352.33. A further R177.12 was deducted as a UIF contribution. After everything was taken off, the engineer's net take-home pay landed at R85,470.55.
