Clancy, a Massachusetts mother, became the centre of one of the most debated criminal cases in recent American memory after killing her three young children. Her defence argued she was suffering from a severe mental health crisis at the time, brought on in part by postpartum psychosis.
When the TMZ reporter asked whether Clancy was guilty, Sheindlin did not hesitate. She told the reporter there was no question that Clancy had killed her children. The only question, she said, was whether there was an excuse for it, before telling the reporter to make up their own mind.
Asked whether Clancy should be retried following an earlier legal development in the case, Sheindlin acknowledged there was a danger in not pursuing a retrial, suggesting that allowing such cases to go unprosecuted could set a troubling precedent.

When the reporter raised comments made by US Congresswoman Nancy Mace, who had reportedly called for the public execution of Clancy during a separate TMZ interview in Washington, DC, Sheindlin was brief and direct. She called the suggestion ridiculous.
The ambush-style interview, shot against a backdrop of glass and stone building facades, lasted only a few minutes, but Sheindlin's clipped, no-nonsense responses were enough to send the clip viral. Watch the interview that got everyone talking:
