Kobindren Chettiar was gunned down by an angry neighbour, Marcie Mandrie, while attending a party at his elder brother, Hegandren Chettiar's house in Redfern, Pheonix on January 7.

According to the victim's other brother, Yesivan, Mandrie, who also happened to be related to the family, shouted at Hegandren to turn the music off about 30 minutes after loadshedding had started in the area.

It wasn't long before the distant relative returned with a gun and started threatening the family and randomly firing shots, IOL reported.

Kobindren Chettiar allegedly tried to de-escalate the situation and told Mandrie that they were family and shouldn't fight over silly things. As Chettiar was walking away, the neighbour and relative opened fire and shot him in the back.

Chettiar died while the family was rushing him to the hospital.

Yesivan mourned:

“His wife has now been left without her husband and his eight-year-old son without a father.”

KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that Mandrie was arrested at the scene and a case of murder is being investigated, North Coast Rising Sun reported.
