A South African teacher from Witsenberg has sent Mzansi into a laughing fit after sharing a TikTok video of how his Grade learners now greet him every morning. @meneer_mapela posted the clip on 7 August 2026, and it spread quickly for the most wholesome reason.

The video shows the teacher walking into class and calling out “Morning, class” as usual. But the pupils’ response is anything but usual. Instead of the standard “Good morning, teacher,” they fire back: “Good morning, 2 times graduate that built a 6 room house for his grandma cash.”

It carries on from there. When he asks how they are, they answer that they are very well and ask how he is, all while addressing him by the full title. When he says he is well and tells them to be seated, they even sign off with: “Thank you, 2 times graduate that built a house for his grandma cash.”

In the video, the teacher can be seen wearing his graduation sashes around his waist, adding to the moment. His post caption read: “POV: This is how my learners greet me every morning since I built a 6-rooms house for my late grandmother.” He added in Xhosa: “Umzukulwana kaMantsundu!!” meaning “Grandson of Mantsundu,” a nod to his late grandmother.

A classroom greeting that honours a family legacy

The story behind the greeting makes it even more special. @meneer_mapela completed two degrees and used his education to build a six-room home for his late grandmother, paying cash. His learners clearly took note and turned it into a daily tribute.
