She explained that they could improve their office looks by either putting in more effort or toning things down to look more professional. Thobile explained that neutral tones are perfect for work.

Colours like beige and black work best together and make one look more put together, which could be a positive message to your manager:

“These outfits will not only make sure that you keep your job, but will actually help you get promoted. Studies say that women are most likely to earn two times more than men based on how they look at you in the office or at the workplace.”

Thobile explained that when women invest in themselves, it could help elevate and increase their earning potential. Modest and well-put-together outfits with neutral colours send a message to everyone around you:

“They send a message that you’re someone worth taking seriously and you know why you’re there and you know what you are doing.”

Thobile highlighted that pullovers and black trousers should be staple items in every woman’s closet. She believes that clothes can make one look competent until proven otherwise:

“Sometimes it’s just a matter of how you present yourself and how you dress in the workplace.”

A pencil skirt and appropriate accessories could put the focus on you at the office, but make sure it’s for the right reasons. Here’s a list of staple clothes by Thobile:

  • Pencil skirt
  • Trousers
  • Pullovers
  • Heels
  • Long dresses
  • Jewellery
  • Sunglasses
  • Handbags
