GAUTENG— The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Gauteng accused Premier Panyaza Lesufi, who reshuffled his cabinet as two parties joined the Government of Provincial Unity, of disobeying the ANC by appointing a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters to cabinet.

According to SABC News, the provincial secretary, Mpumelelo Sangweni, said Lesufi must be held accountable for his decision to appoint Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Gauteng Provincial Chairperson Nkululeko Dunga as the Finance MEC.

Sangweni slams Lesufi

Sangweni said that the ANC resolved during a provincial working committee that the Premier must not reduce the number of the ANC. He accused Lesufi of going against the decision of the ANC and demanded that the ANC in the province take action against Lesufi.

How did Lesufi reshuffle his cabinet?

Dunga was not the only appointment outside of the ANC. Lesufi appointed RISE Mzansi national chairperson Vuyiswa Rampkgopa as the MEC for Economic Development and Agricultural and Rural Development. The Inkatha Freedom Party’s Bonginkosi Dlamini was appointed as the MEC for e-Government. Former Finance and Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile was named the MEC for Education, Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation. Kedibone Diale-Tlabela retains her position as the MEC for Transport, Roads and Logistics, and former Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko was named the MEC for Social Development.

Luhle M said:

“Rejecting a reshuffle won’t bring back the billions stolen or provide jobs for the millions of unemployed youth in this province.”

Oarabile Tshwagong remarked:

“A party plagued by constant infighting has no business governing. If it can’t manage its own internal divisions, it certainly can’t be trusted to run government effectively.”

Pivoski pointed out:

“Does the youth league reason? They didn’t have the numbers to pass a budget. It’s the same at the national level, hence the coalition.”

Siyabonga Mzondo added:

“He forgets that his party did not get 51%.”

Ramokabane Sefatsa said:

“So what? The cabinet is working. Let them eat humble pie there.”
