LIMPOPO - The body of 18-year-old Ntshuxeko Mhlongo has been recovered from a lake at Relela village, Bolobedu South, bringing a tragic end to a search that began after the teenager failed to return home from school.
Mhlongo was last seen on Thursday, 3 September 2026, while walking home from Fobeni High School in Thapane village. His family reported him missing to Tzaneen Police Station the same day after he did not arrive home.
A missing person enquiry was registered, and search efforts were set in motion, but sadly he was not found alive.

Teenager chased by learners before disappearing
According to preliminary information gathered by police, a group of roughly ten boys pursued Mhlongo while he was on his way home from school on the day he went missing.
He disappeared shortly after, and his whereabouts remained unknown until a search and rescue team was deployed to the area where he was last seen. His body was discovered in a lake on Monday, 7 September 2026.
The family subsequently made a positive identification of the deceased. The South African Police Service in the Mopani District has opened an inquest docket to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mhlongo's death.
