5 More Suspects Arrested in Murder of 2 KZN Crime Intelligence Officers

KWAZULU-NATAL — A suspect linked to the killing of two KwaZulu-Natal Crime Intelligence officers was shot dead by police during a pre-dawn operation in Inanda on Friday morning. A member of the Special Task Force (STF) was wounded in the confrontation and subsequently received medical attention.
The operation, which began at approximately 3am, was carried out after SAPS in KwaZulu-Natal obtained search and arrest warrants following an extensive investigation into the killings. Five of the six targeted suspects surrendered without incident. The sixth, found at home with his girlfriend at the time, refused to comply with officers' demands to exit the premises.
Standoff turns deadly in Inanda
The suspect opened fire on officers before eventually releasing his partner. The STF was called in to assist, and the man was shot dead while resisting arrest. The injured STF member is reported to be recovering well.

The raid is directly connected to the ambush that took place on 30 April in Mount Edgecombe, north of Durban. Captain Louis Nel and Sergeant Mandla Khuzwayo were seated inside an unmarked official vehicle when attackers opened fire on them. Nel was killed at the scene, while Khuzwayo succumbed to his injuries in hospital on 25 May.
The deaths of Nel and Khuzwayo sparked an intensive police investigation that ultimately led to Friday's coordinated arrests across Inanda and other areas in the province. The five suspects who surrendered are expected to face charges in connection with the April attack.
Mkhwanazi promises to find CI officer's killers
Previously, Briefly News reported that General Mkhwanazi spoke on behalf of the SAPS to a crowd of mourning family members and colleagues at the funeral of Captain Louis Nel. He explained that, having walked a similar path himself, he understands the deep pain and frustration felt by the members of the force.The General expressed disbelief that a criminal could take the life of a highly trained operator and gave his assurance to everyone that the perpetrators would be found “dead or alive”.
