GAUTENG — A 23-year-old woman was shot and killed in Tembisa on the morning of 28 September 2026, and the man suspected of carrying out the attack was subsequently found dead in Midrand.
Boitumelo Nhlanzi was fatally shot in the Temong section of Tembisa while making her way to work. Her belongings were allegedly taken from her at the scene.

Journalist Everson Luhanga posted on X that the suspect believed to be responsible for Nhlanzi's death was later discovered dead in Midrand. He reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities were reported to be en route to that scene at the time of the post. No further details about the identity of the suspect have been confirmed at the time of publication.

Recent killings in Ekurhuleni raise alarm
The incident follows a series of violent deaths involving women in Ekurhuleni. On 26 September 2026, the body of Ntombifuthu Nxumalo was discovered unclothed at Mooifontein Cemetery in the Vusimusi section of Tembisa. Nxumalo had sustained severe head injuries, and stones recovered at the scene suggested she may have been stoned to death. No stab wounds were found on her body.
Investigators established that Nxumalo had been at a nearby tavern with a female acquaintance before leaving with an unidentified man. Residents near the cemetery told investigators they heard a woman screaming for her life at around 23:00 that night.
A multi-agency team comprising Crime Intelligence Ekurhuleni District, Tembisa South Detectives, and the Head Office Investigations Psychology Services travelled to Mohlabaneng Village in Limpopo after the suspect fled the province. With assistance from SAPS Bolobedu, the team located and arrested the suspect without incident. The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner praised the team for the speed and effectiveness of the investigation.
Briefly News previously reported that two suspects, Fortunate Masilela and Tsakane Nester Msithini, appeared before the Boksburg Magistrate's Court in connection with the murder of Jabulile Ntimba, identified as the ninth victim in a series of women's killings in Ekurhuleni. Their case was postponed to 1 October 2026, with both accused remanded in custody.
Thembisa victim's family speaks out
In a related article, Briefly News reported on Nhlanzi’s family’s belief that her fatal shooting in Tembisa was planned. The 24-year-old was shot on Mapungubwe Street on 28 September while on her way to work.
Her uncle said Nhlanzi’s husband told the family he would come to the scene, but later calls went unanswered and his phone was switched off. The family also said he had not been seen since about 4 a.m., raising further questions as police investigate.
