Benni McCarthy worked under Ten Hag for two seasons as the forwards coach and won two trophies but was let go in the summer.
McCarthy praises two Man United players
He said two players work harder than others; if the squad emulated them, results would be much better.
“If some of the Manchester United players had what Bruno (Fernandes) and Diogo (Dalot) have, it would have been easier to achieve good results," he said via Football365. "They both trained with incredible concentration, giving everything they had. Some of the others didn’t do the same."
The South African legend claimed there was a disparity in performances among the players, hampered the team's success.
“This ended up limiting United’s progress, because some players weren’t training to the best of their ability. Even in games, the data showed us that some players were at their peak performance and others a little below.”
Dalot won Man United's season's Players' Player of the Year award last season, while Fernandes has been ever-present in the team.
What is Erik ten Hag's biggest problem?
Briefly News earlier reported that Benni McCarthy explained Erik ten Hag's biggest issue as Man United boss.
The former Bafana Bafana striker said the Dutchman lacks passion, a quality he believes players want to see more of.
