Stellies have previously attempted to offer Basadien a new deal to ward off potential suitors and increase his market value. But with the financial muscle of the Brazilians, boosted by a R200 million windfall from their participation at the FIFA Club World Cup, they might now be in a position to trigger any buyout clause in place.

If the deal is successful, Basadien will follow in the footsteps of former Stellies stars like Jayden Adams and Iqraam Rayners.

The Stellenbosch FC defender has been one of the standout players in the Betway Premiership and has attracted interest from several top PSL sides. With his offensive ability, defensive prowess, and leadership qualities, Basadien could add balance to Sundowns' already talented squad and provide depth to their defensive department.

Basadien sweeps Stellenbosch Awards

He was the big winner at Stellenbosch FC’s annual awards gala held in May. He walked away with two major accolades: Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season.

Basadien’s campaign was marked by seven goals and eight assists across all competitions, underlining his importance to the team.

The South African international has been one of the top performers in the Premier Soccer League this season, helping the Maroons reach the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals and push for a top-three finish in the Betway Premiership.

Previous links with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates

Basadien was previously linked with a summer transfer to Kaizer Chiefs, having been on the Soweto giants’ radar since last season. He was seen as a potential solution to the Glamour Boys’ ongoing left-back dilemma.

While Nasreddine Nabi brought in Bradley Cross from Lamontville Golden Arrows last summer, the former Newcastle star has struggled to cement his place.

Kaizer Chiefs are not the only PSL club interested, with rivals Orlando Pirates also reportedly pursuing the talented Stellenbosch defender.

Basadien himself has expressed his desire to play for one of the big clubs in the Betway Premiership shortly.
