Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates would be going head to head again in the 2025-26 Betway Premiership season after the latter two teams both went head to head last campaign.

The defending champions, Sundowns, are currently tipped as favourites to win the next season’s league after signing Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC.

The Buccaneers also invested in new players this summer, like Sipho Mbule, Oswin, others and brought in Abdeslam Oauddou as their new coach.

Kaizer Chiefs are also in the picture despite their recent poor performance last season in the league, but ended as Nedbank Cup champions and will be going all out for the league this campaign.

Favourite team to win the Betway Premiership

Sports journalist Michael Afolayan, in an exclusive chat with Briefly News, talked about the favourite team to win the Betway Premiership between Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

“It’s clear that this next season’s Betway Premiership title battle will be a two-horse race between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, due to how they’ve both gone head-to-head last campaign,” he said.
“With the good start from both clubs again this season, I don’t think there would be a clear favourite amongst them, but if we have to pick one team by force, then I feel Sundowns have the edge as they are the defending champions.
“The Brazilians had a good outing at the FIFA Club World Cup despite not qualifying for the next round, and they are still the team to beat next season.

Afolayan also spoke about Kaizer Chiefs' chances despite being poor in terms of performance in the Betway Premiership last season.
