Miguel Cardoso Speaks Out on the Lasting Void Left by ‘Irreplaceable’ Lucas Ribeiro

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has offered an update on Lucas Ribeiro’s ongoing absence, as the Brazilian forward has yet to make his debut for the club this season.

“Nobody should compare any player who plays right winger, or any other position, whether they are on or off the field. You can’t expect to find a duplicate of a player who is currently not with the team,” Cardoso said after Sundowns’ 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semi-final first leg on Saturday.

“I don’t think it’s my place to answer questions about Lucas. In due time, everything about his situation will be clarified. But as for Arthur, he’s responding well and performing strongly.

“He’s showing dynamism and delivering what the team needs in that position, contributing effectively to help the team. As I said, no one should expect one player to replace another exactly – they’re simply players who happen to play the same position.

“This means the game will look different, but we have to make the most of Arthur’s unique qualities. He’s improving match after match, and we hope he can maintain a consistently high level of performance as a player we trust.”
