PSL Giants told to pounce on Riveiro

Sports journalist Moses Mbogo, in an exclusive chat with Briefly News, shared his thoughts on the pressure Riveiro was facing at Al Ahly and how he was sacked.

The Spanish tactician lost his job with the Egyptian giants after recent poor performances.

“I think Jose Riveiro’s time at Al Ahly was done after that defeat against Pyramids FC. That was the last straw, if we’re being honest,” the sports journalist said.
“I didn’t watch many of Al Ahly’s games in the league this season, but the little I saw of them at the FIFA Club World Cup shows he needed time to make the players understand his approach. However, a club like Al Ahly is like Real Madrid; you don’t have that luxury of time to impose your game plan, so you have to be fast about it.
“It’s so unfortunate that Riveiro found himself in this situation, as he was in a good place while he was at Orlando Pirates, and I don’t blame him for deciding to join Al Ahly, as every coach always wants to progress in their career and take on a top job.”

Mbogo also advised Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns to pounce on Riveiro after his sacking by Al Ahly.

“Riveiro has been let go by Al Ahly. I think Mamelodi Sundowns would be a suitable club for him if the Brazilians decide to let go of Miguel Cardoso,” he added.
“The Spanish tactician is very familiar with the Premier Soccer League and only failed to win the Betway Premiership during his time with Pirates due to Sundowns' dominance over the past eight seasons.
"Cardoso is currently under fire at Sundowns, and Riveiro could be a good replacement for him. However, the Spaniard might be loyal to Orlando Pirates and may not want to coach their direct rivals."
