Bafana Bafana qualified for the global football competition after beating Rwanda in their final qualifier weeks ago. They achieved this despite being docked three points for fielding an ineligible player in one of their matches.
There has been ongoing discussion about who will succeed Broos when the Belgian decides to leave. Several coaches have been tipped to replace him, but he will lead the team to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup before any decision is made.

He praised the team’s recent performances and reflected on how SAFA’s past decision to fire him and Carlos Queiroz opened major opportunities for Queiroz abroad.
De Sa commended the current technical team, noting their impressive work since the Africa Cup of Nations. He urged SAFA not to disrupt the setup or make unnecessary changes, emphasising that the World Cup, spread across three countries, will be a logistical challenge.
He stressed the importance of maintaining stability because the staff have been consistent and effective, as shown by the team’s qualification. De Sa added that he hopes there will be no interference from SAFA or external political influences, and he credited Hugo Broos and his team for lifting Bafana Bafana back into Africa’s top ten, where he believes they belong.
De Sa's view on the issue sparked a debate on social media amongst Bafana Bafana supporters.
Malungisa Barnati said:
"We won Bronze in 2023 without interference, so what changed now?"
Sunny Nqobani Masina wrote:
"Not wth Broos as a coach, Madala is not a playground."
Masilo Jackson Willem shared:
"Nothing wrong with your bosses showing you a better way to do your job. They must force him to add Lorch and a sniper striker like Sekhukhune guy, white guy. Grobler."
Sbongile Balbo commented:
"Hugo Bross has been with the team for some time, and now you talk about interference."
Thabo J Mantel reacted:
"It's not like we are doing well. Broos chose to play weak teams, we are not tested, but we will judge after AFCON."
Kantunje Moshakele implied:
"Too much arrogance... that is why safas will keep on celebrating finishing fourth or fifth in the continental Afcon and the current crop of players do not have the balls to win major tournaments..."
Cherryboy Seko added:
"We've got three problems in South Africa as a whole... The 2 biggest problems are Danny Jordan and Mr I Khoza, then the other is Jnr Khanye and Nkewu... Once you listen to these last two Khanye and Nkewu, you stand a chance of battling with your team...."
