The former SuperSport United midfielder has gained global attention after being fielded during their World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, a match he was ineligible to play.
Bafana Bafana were later found guilty of the offence and docked three points by FIFA, but that didn't stop them from qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as group winners in Group C.
The South African midfielder featured in Bafana Bafana’s 3-1 win over Zambia, playing for 45 minutes. The friendly served as part of South Africa’s preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off in Morocco in December 2025.

Broos said it was his 40th game as national team coach when Mokoena started under him, and over four years, he has amassed 50 caps, a remarkable achievement.
The former Cameroon national team coach emphasised that Mokoena has been a key player for the team, pointing out that his absence in the second half of recent matches revealed how much the squad relies on his intelligence on the field.
