Safa Technical Committee Set to Recommend Pitso Mosimane as New Bafana Bafana Coach

Safa's technical committee is set to recommend Pitso Mosimane as the next Bafana Bafana head coach, with the former national team boss expected to be presented to the National Executive Committee (NEC) at Safa House on Saturday morning.
A well-placed source within the technical committee confirmed that the decision followed several nights of exhaustive deliberations, some of which were conducted virtually and extended late into the evening. Committee chairperson Jack Maluleke is expected to formally table the recommendation at Saturday's NEC meeting.
Mosimane earns committee's backing
The unnamed committee member said:
"After lengthy deliberations, I can confirm that our chairperson, Jack Maluleke, will hand over our recommendations of coach Pitso Mosimane to the NEC. We believe that he is the best candidate for the job, and his work on the African continent and in the Gulf region speaks volumes. We are confident he can lead Bafana Bafana to greater success."
Should the NEC ratify the recommendation, Safa's administration will then initiate formal appointment procedures, including salary negotiations and the assembly of Mosimane's technical staff.

Safa president Danny Jordaan had signalled last week, during Hugo Broos' farewell press conference, that Saturday's NEC meeting would be the platform for a coaching decision. Broos parted ways with the federation at the end of July.
Mosimane's path to the frontrunner position
Mosimane's candidacy gained public traction during the 2026 FIFA World Cup held in Mexico, the United States and Canada, when Maluleke acknowledged the coach's application while speaking to Sunday World in Monterrey. At the time, Maluleke noted he had received more than 80 applications, adding that Mosimane would be required to go through the interview process alongside all other candidates.
The 59-year-old previously served as Bafana head coach between 2010 and 2012, taking charge after Carlos Alberto Parreira departed following the conclusion of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on home soil. He had also acted as caretaker coach before Parreira's appointment and served as an assistant to Joel Santana during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Following his time with the national team, Mosimane joined Mamelodi Sundowns, where he built considerable domestic and continental success. He later coached Al Ahly in Cairo, Al Ahli Jeddah and Al Wahda FC in the UAE, before returning to Saudi Arabia with Abha Football Club. A subsequent stint in Iran with Esteghlal followed before he returned to Johannesburg, where he has been running development projects and schools' football programmes.
