- Local fashion retailer Mr Price has social media in a frenzy after the company debuted its new loungewear range
- The new items resembled popular luxury loungewear range 'Skims' but left many loyal customers complaining about their excessively high prices
- Briefly News took to the comments section to try and make sense of Mzansi's reaction to the inflated prices on Mr Price clothing
The loungewear trend has exploded now that working from home has become the new normal. So you’d think with popular fashion retailer Mr Price entering the market, the brand's monopoly on quality and affordability would help loungewear do away with its exclusive label.
The collection looks like a version of Kim Kardashian West’s Skims range which has proved popular. But the online retailer has Twitter abuzz after revealing the new items steep prices.
It didn’t take users long to cop the latest items, but when Twitter user @Mmabatho101 shared a post with the caption: “Aowa these are not Mr Price prices”, it got many talking, resulting in Mr Price trending within a matter of hours. Read some of their comments below:
"I guess we're left with Pep now."
"Mr Price is becoming too ambitious now, don't they know their target market. iNgenge kaNSFAS kanje."
"Mr Price is expensive yazi . I remember once I wanted to buy something coz I thought it's less. But I was so shocked to find it more priced than at The Fix. I exited the store same time, coz I was shook."
There were, however, also those who commended the retailer for coming through for them:
Meanwhile, Briefly News previously reported The Fenty fashion line is no more. Rihanna has been making business moves after taking a long break from music. The musician launched a makeup line as well as a luxury fashion line with luxury brand LVMH and fans were impressed with the stars unrelenting work ethic.
The line was a success for a while but according to a statement, the decision to close down the fashion line came as a result of Covid-19.
The brand says they are waiting on a better climate for shoppers and did not rule out another collaboration with Rihanna in the future. The tone of the statement made it seem like this might just be a temporary decision.
Since Fenty house was a luxury brand, not a lot of people could afford it. Fans began to speculate the reasons why it has shut down on social media.
"It wasn't a great line unfortunately and way too expensive."
"It's called a luxury brand for a reason. It's making money from those who can afford it. But because of Covid it's taking a pause."
"Fans can’t afford it, the prices are too high end. Her makeup, skincare and lingerie brand is heavily supported though."
