While radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo had earlier raised questions over the whereabouts of the funds, recent reports suggest that General Mkhwanazi received the donation, and DJ Warras is applauding the top cop for using the funds to honour the legacy of police officers who died in the line of duty.

General Mkhwanazi redirects donated funds

On Wednesday, 13 August 2025, blogger Inside Out News shared an update that General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi had received an undisclosed amount from a fundraising campaign organised by controversial social media personality Chris Excel. According to the blogger, instead of using the money for personal use, Mkhwanazi channelled the money to a worthy cause. The update read:

“General Mkhwanazi redirected funds raised by X users Chris Excel and Ori via BackaBuddy to the SAPS Education Trust Fund for children of fallen police officers who died on duty.”
