A look at Sarah Langa's dating history amid allegations

The influencer, who is reportedly dating someone nine years younger than she is, urged divorced women to loosen up, explore a little and date people they normally wouldn't. She argued that people often confuse familiarity with love.

“First thing is don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Date someone that you wouldn't normally have dated. Definitely someone from a different background, whether it's a cultural background, because sometimes I feel like we think we're in love, but we actually are comfortable because it's familiar and it feels safe,” Langa said.

She emphasised that before jumping into the dating pool after a divorce, women should take some time to understand themselves. Sarah Langa said self-awareness helps women recognise what they bring into a relationship.

“And second, actually maybe I'm going to swap it around. I think the first is to have a level of self-awareness. Spend time doing some introspection so that you know what you are coming with in a relationship. Like I always see dating as going to have dinner at your favourite restaurant, if you love Italian food, go to an Italian restaurant, but you need to know what food you like to know you're going to the right restaurant,” Sarah Langa explained.

Sarah Langa discouraged women from maintaining a strict checklist of their dream partner. She argued that those lists are usually built on experience from past relationships and can limit them.

“I wouldn't say the checklist should be a checklist of the type of partner that you're looking for. You still have to be open-minded to that. Don't have a checklist of like these are the 10 qualities I want because you might not even know that because that's exclusive to the type of men that you've been exposed to, or women you have been exposed to, or whatever you’re into,” Sarah Langa said.

Langa suggested creating a list of personal non-negotiables based on one’s life story. She wrapped up her advice by encouraging divorced women to stay open-minded and enjoy the dating process.

“I think the checklist should be a list of things that are important to you because they are deeply grounded in who you are. If it's because you need someone who's a good listener, because no one listened to you growing up, you know. So that's, that's for me the number one most important thing. Yeah. Then go out there and be open-minded, and yeah, just have fun while you're at it,” Langa added.

How people typically deal with divorce

Briefly News spoke to relationship expert Michele Naude, who explained that ending a relationship can emotionally feel as heavy as losing someone to death. She said people react differently.

"Breakups or divorce often evoke feelings like those experienced after a major loss or death. Certain individuals remain trapped in denial or shock, while others feel anger and betrayal, and still others find themselves overwhelmed by powerlessness, despair, and depression," Naude said.

Michele Naude emphasised that healing doesn't happen overnight, and that the breakup often affects how long recovery takes. When the pain takes too long or makes it hard for someone to move forward, Naude recommended seeing a therapist.

"Healing takes time, and the cause of the breakup/divorce will influence the time it takes to process the event. Individual therapy is advised when especially when the pain and hurt are prolonged and complicate the individual’s ability to come to acceptance," Naude added.
