Jim Carrey's team moved quickly to debunk the week-long speculation. The legendary comedic actor accepted an Honorary César at the prestigious event and instantly raised eyebrows over his appearance.

Fans jumped to unfounded conclusions based on his longer hairstyle, seemingly "smoother" complexion, and what some perceived as a change in his eye colour. Some even claim he signed autographs with the "wrong" hand.

Jim Carrey: Makeup artist Alexis Stone claims to have impersonated comedian in Paris

The frenzy reached a fever pitch when drag artist Alexis Stone posted a cryptic image of a Jim Carrey mask on Instagram on 1 March. Captioned, "Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris," the post led many to believe he may have impersonated the star at the award show. However, experts later suggested that the mask was possibly AI-generated.

Finally breaking the silence through his longtime publicist, Marleah Leslie confirmed to TMZ and Rolling Stone that "Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award."

Further silencing the doubters were award show organisers, who revealed that Jim had been preparing for the night for months and was surrounded by loved ones, including his daughter, grandson, and his partner, who, along with viewers, watched him deliver a 12-minute acceptance speech in French.

Despite this, reactions to the confirmation remain mixed. While many fans are echoing a chorus of "I told you so's," others have revisited past interviews where Carrey spoke about "not existing," convinced the star had been dropping coded messages about Hollywood for years.

However, despite the wild theories, those closest to the actor debunked the rumours.
