MacG and his panel had plenty to say when news broke that Somizi Mhlongo was entering the podcasting space, and their reaction is making the rounds on social media.
During a Podcast and Chill with MacG episode that premiered on Monday, 17 August 2026, the hosts reacted with a mix of amusement and genuine curiosity after learning that the South African entertainer had announced a new venture called Life Lessons with Somizi. The clip, shared on X by @ThisIsColbert, quickly picked up traction among fans of both personalities.
MacG's take on Somizi's podcast
MacG suggested that Somizi had started a podcast probably because Metro FM didn’t renew his contract, and this could be his “escape” or exit plan.

“I think maybe they didn't renew their contracts for next year, so it's like an escape,” MacG alleged.
MacG and his co-hosts were visibly tickled by the irony of it all, given that Somizi had previously made it clear he wanted no part of the podcast world.
“They say never say never," MacG quipped, reading back Somizi's own words as the panel laughed along.
The conversation took a more earnest turn when the group began debating what the podcast could become.
"I feel like if he's authentic, it's gonna be fire," one host said, adding a sharp caveat: "But if he PRs it... you know it'll just be a radio show online."
MacG noted that Somizi has the life experience to make compelling content, pointing to his rich career history.
"This is the Sarafina guy, bro. He's lived. He knows it all," he said.
The panel also joked that Somizi could expect a call from them when he needed the numbers, referencing the growth metrics that come with being in the podcasting game.
Somizi's Life Lessons Podcast
Somizi announced on 13 August 2026 via his social media pages, owning the contradiction head-on.
"I also said I would never have a podcast. Yes, podcast is loading. Life Lessons with Somizi," he wrote, alongside a video where he asked his followers to subscribe to his YouTube channel.
The show is expected to officially launch in September 2026. It adds to an already packed schedule for the star, who has been busy with his fashion label Sompire. The brand gained significant attention at the Durban July after celebrities including Zola Mhlongo, DJ Tira, and Anele Zondo stepped out in his designs.
