Thandeka Qwabe is stepping back into the spotlight with a brand-new role on e.tv's telenovela Land of Mills and Money, closing out a years-long chapter that took her from acting to agriculture and back again.
In the production, Qwabe plays Ndumiso Simelane, a prodigal daughter trying to rebuild her relationship with her parents after abandoning them for her lover. It is a role she describes as a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with an industry she never truly left behind in spirit.
Thandeka Qwabe's road back to the screen
The actress trained at Tshwane University of Technology, where she completed a Bachelor of Technology in drama. She initially set her sights on directing, but an internship at Mzansi Magic's Isibaya changed everything. The executive producer of Bomb Productions was aware that acting was among her majors, and when auditions came around, Qwabe was well positioned to take advantage. She made her on-screen debut on the show as Thandi, and her career was underway.

After Isibaya, she returned to KwaZulu-Natal and pivoted to farming, a long-held ambition she had originally planned to pursue in retirement. Unemployment pushed the timeline forward. Working alongside family members with existing agricultural experience, she grew the venture into a business that supplied Spar, Boxer, and the Durban market. She also attempted to grow sugar beans before eventually stepping back from that side of the operation.
That pause opened the door to more screen work. She appeared on Uzalo in a role that allowed her to break from type, swapping the sweet-natured characters she was known for to take on a villain.
"I always play the sweet girl. I'm always someone's Beyoncé or just a sweet girl, so the role on Uzalo was quite interesting," she said.
A stint on Sibongile and the Dlaminis followed, where she played Baby Cele's daughter shortly before the series wrapped.
Why Thandeka Qwabe returned to acting
Qwabe is candid about the fact that she auditioned for other productions before landing this one, and she believes those earlier attempts simply came too soon.
"I think it's about God's timing, because I did audition for shows at some point, but it wasn't the time. But I have decided that 'God, I am ready now.' I went back to auditioning this year, got a response from Land of Mills and Money, and got the role. I believe it was God's timing, and that's when he wanted me to get back into the industry," she said.
Going forward, Qwabe intends to keep farming on a seasonal basis, with plans to grow potatoes and butternut and explore livestock farming. She is also building her presence as a fashion content creator on social media, though acting has reclaimed its place at the centre of her focus.

Who else stars in Land of Mills and Money
Meanwhile, Briefly News reported that Winnie Ntshaba and Jo-Anne Reyneke are set to star in e.tv's brand-new primetime telenovela, which debuted in August 2026.
Land of Mills and Money is set in the fictional Mpumalanga town of Shonalanga and centres on a dangerous secret after a heist.
