Radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo was left visibly shaken on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, reacting with a shocked emoji on X after news broke that former SABC Sports presenter Owen Ndlovu had been found dead following a hijacking and kidnapping in Gauteng's East Rand.
Ndlovu was abducted on Tuesday night, 15 September 2026, in Katlehong while picking up his wife, Portia, from a church service. Portia witnessed the ordeal first-hand and told Africa Daily that armed men forced her husband away at gunpoint. His Ford Raptor was later recovered in Walkerville, reportedly abandoned and partially stripped.
The following morning, residents in the nearby township of Thokoza came across Ndlovu's body. His family confirmed his passing in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon.
Owen Ndlovu's SAMRO court dispute
The tragedy carries a particularly heavy undertone given that Ndlovu was scheduled to appear in court over an ongoing dispute with the South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO). According to those close to the case, approximately R60 million in royalties was at the centre of the legal battle.

Dhlomo, who shared the SABC News breaking report on X, did not add words to his post, letting the shocked emoji speak for itself. The reaction from Mzansi, however, was far from silent.

Among them was also singer Mercy Pakela, who accused SAMRO of spreading misinformation.
