Mona Monyane has broken her silence on the toll her six-year divorce battle took on her, revealing she nearly took her own life during the ordeal. The actress shared her finalised divorce decree on Instagram on 22 September 2026, but her words went far beyond celebrating the end of a legal process.
Monyane, who was previously married to actor Khulu Skenjana, filed for divorce in February 2020. The process dragged on for years, complicated by a husband who refused to sign the papers and other challenges she says she will detail in a book. A law firm eventually stepped in to assist her pro bono after she described being scammed during the drawn-out legal battle. Her decree from the Regional Court for the Regional Division of Gauteng, held in Pretoria, was stamped 31 August 2026.

Posting the court document alongside a raw and emotional caption, Monyane made clear that her experience was not simply a painful marriage. She stressed that gender-based violence extends well beyond the physical.

"Remember, GBV isn't only physical. It is also spiritual, mental, emotional and financial! I am grateful I am out. Many of us don't get to say the same... I almost committed suicide," she wrote.
She also reflected on what the six years had cost her and given her:
"My 6-year-long divorce process forced me to fight. To break. To discover the version of myself I never knew existed. To realise how dark life can become. I have felt pain, hatred, bitterness, anger. I have felt grief. I have undergone trauma. But God doesn't play about me."
When a follower asked what caused the lengthy delay, Monyane responded directly:
"a man refusing to sign," adding that she would share further details in a book.
