A podcast moment has got Mzansi talking after a guest on the Read the Room podcast admitted he only knows one Nadia Nakai song, drawing a sharp correction from a fellow panellist who was not prepared to let the slight slide.
The clip, filmed on the show's signature pink-and-floral set with neon signage in the background, captures a relaxed panel discussion that quickly turned into a defence of one of South Africa's most recognised female rappers. Three participants sat on pink couches and armchairs, microphones in front of them, when the conversation turned to whether South Africa has a female rapper who has reached the level of a Ko.
What Read the Room feels about Nadia
Phil Mphela said the only Nadia Nakai song he knows is "BRAGGA," seemingly dismissing her standing in the local hip-hop scene. Shamiso was quick to step in, pointing out that Nadia has a full body of work, including her *Nadia Naked* album, and that her collaboration with Nasty C further cemented her reach.

"In terms of commercial success, I would say Nadia is our biggest woman MC," Shamiso said, before acknowledging that different female rappers bring different styles to the table. She also mentioned Rouge as someone who brings "real" bars, and referenced a rapper she called "the Tswyza guy" in the context of lyrical ability, though some online found that particular comparison eyebrow-raising.
