Cassper Nyovest stepped into choppy waters when he took to X to declare that Rick Ross had lost him as a fan, following domestic violence allegations made by Ross's former girlfriend, model Jazzma Kendrick.

Kendrick had posted photographs on social media appearing to show a bruised face and swollen lip, claiming Ross had "busted" her lip and describing herself as having been treated like a "punching bag" during their relationship. Ross had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time.

Cassper condemned the alleged behaviour, saying he could not back men who beat women and that violence against women was unacceptable under any circumstances. While some praised him for speaking out, the applause was quickly drowned out by a wave of criticism pointing to what many saw as a glaring double standard.

Cassper's Chris Brown history comes back to haunt him

Many South Africans were quick to remind Cassper that he had previously shown public support for Chris Brown, who has a well-documented history of assault allegations, including his highly publicised 2009 attack on Rihanna. Cassper had reportedly backed Brown ahead of a performance at FNB Stadium, a move that now sat uneasily with his anti-abuse rhetoric.

The backlash was sharp and personal. Critics accused Cassper of practising selective morality, choosing which artists to condemn based on personal preference rather than principle.

Cassper Nyovest dismissed the criticism, saying he would continue using his platform according to his own judgement and that public opinion would not dictate how he lived his life.
