Rapper Rick Ross is facing serious legal trouble after turning himself in to police over an alleged assault involving a former girlfriend.

The woman contacted authorities and claimed the incident took place on 28 August at the home she and Ross had shared. According to TMZ, she told police that Ross woke her from sleep during a dispute over a photograph in which she had been tagged on social media.

Why Rick Ross was arrested in Miami

The woman alleged that the argument quickly escalated after the Port of Miami rapper questioned whether she had been dishonest with him. She claimed he slapped her and accused her of seeing another man. Each time she denied the accusation, she told police he struck her again, hitting her several times in the chest.

Her account also included allegations that Ross choked her to the point where she had difficulty breathing, yanked her by her ponytail, and forced her into a wall. She reportedly provided police with photographs she said documented her injuries.

The Wingstop businessman voluntarily surrendered to authorities and, according to TMZ, said nothing about the allegations when he turned himself in. Court records confirm he has pleaded not guilty to both battery charges and is still in custody as his legal team works to arrange his release.

Rick Ross' lawyers respond after his arrest

Attorneys Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein issued a statement rejecting the claims outright. Speaking to TMZ, they questioned the credibility of the allegations and drew attention to the fact that the woman waited roughly a month before going to police. The lawyers maintained their client is innocent and urged the public to allow the legal process to run its course before drawing any conclusions.

"Nobody should be assaulted under any circumstances. Ladies, learn to leave the first time when you recognize the signs. At the same time, he is innocent until proven guilty. This reportedly happened in August, and Ross turned himself in a month later. That can make law enforcement's job harder because a lot can happen in 30 days. Evidence can change, memories can fade, and investigators have to piece together what actually happened. At the end of the day, let the investigation play out and let the evidence speak for itself."
