South African actress Angelique Gerber set tongues wagging in October 2026 after sharing two cryptic Instagram Stories that many fans interpreted as pointed digs at her ex-husband, former Springbok rugby player Jacques Potgieter.

The posts surfaced around the same time Jacques quietly deleted pictures of Angelique from his profile, then restored them, fueling speculation that the couple's long-rumoured reconciliation had fallen apart.

Angelique and Jacques' complicated history

Angelique and Jacques first started dating in 2014, while she was appearing on the now-cancelled SABC 2 Afrikaans series 7de Laan. The two went on to marry in 2016 and share three children. Their relationship, however, has been anything but straightforward. The couple endured a four-year separation during which Jacques was linked to another woman, though that relationship reportedly ended in June.

The first Story, reposted from the account @betterthroughbetrayal and set to Mariah Carey's "Fantasy", read: "If you ever feel stupid... just remember a woman saw a man betray his whole family and still thought, 'that's my soulmate.'" The second, reposted from @happysadgirls with Drake's "Marvins Room" as the soundtrack, carried the message: "your ex is ruining someone else's life. You are safe."

In the months leading up to Angelique's now-viral posts, the pair had been stoking reconciliation rumours, with the two appearing to have found their way back to each other. Jacques's decision to scrub images of Angelique from his social media appears to have put an end to that speculation rather abruptly.

Shade or coincidence?

Angelique has not named Jacques directly in any of her posts, and the Stories have since disappeared as Instagram content typically does after 24 hours. Even so, the timing and content of the reposts did not go unnoticed, with followers drawing their own conclusions about who the messages were aimed at. The reference to a man betraying "his whole family" struck a particular nerve, given the couple's well-documented history and their children together.
