BET_Africa spokesperson Monde Twala has commented on social media rumours that its popular teenovela Black Gold has abruptly ended.

The TV show previously made headlines when Zamani Mbatha and Warren Masemola joined it.

The Black Brain Productions telenovela also stars former Umkhokha actress Mbali Ngiba and Gomora actor Thulani Mtshweni.

Entertainment blogger and writer @TVwithThinus previously reported on his X account that Black Brain Pictures telenovela Black Gold was axed, filming basically shut down (which is why, as I already reported, @BET_Africa is burning it off with double episodes), so that it ends when @ParamountCoAfr and its TV channels shut down at the end of December.

TshisaLIVE reported on Thursday, 13 November 2025, that sources close to production shared that the BET_Africa is planning to air double-bill episodes of Black Gold from 22 December 2025.

This will be part of BET’s special festive season programming. Sources add that the channel is wrapping up Black Gold sooner than anticipated.

However, Monde Twala from BET_Africa has rubbished the reports and shared with TshisaLIVE that everything is on track.

“BET Africa confirms its fourth daily drama, Black Gold, is on track as planned. Filming has been completed, and the series will premiere, and conclude in 2025 as originally scheduled," said Twala.

Twala adds that the telenovela will play double-bill episodes as part of BET’s special festive season programming. This is a plan to double up on the drama and suspense leading to the finale of the show.

"I don't think people are watching as much TV anymore, and in this type of format, either, I think it's moved on. I think we need to keep it sort of like before, 26 Eps a season, long-running telenovela is dying that and other factors, but make something worth watching."

@teb14083 replied:

"Tofolux is coming for everything; we should introduce him to Sweet Guluva."

@IreneJayride said:

"Busi has to pull through. It's an actual need, in fact."

@Boti273322 reacted:

"That lady with a yellow jacket can dance, did she really have to fall like that. Tofolux remains the superstar, and I hope they increase his salary."

@Jabu_Macdonald commented:

"I think Florence Zungu is going to revive my love for villains."
