After a horrific vehicle accident in London, a Saudi prince passed away at the age of 36 after spending more than 20 years in a coma. At the age of 15, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al-Saud was involved in a terrible accident in 2005 that resulted in internal bleeding and a brain haemorrhage.

Sleeping Prince dies after 20 years in a coma

The young prince was popularly known across the world as the “Sleeping Prince." He was kept on a ventilator in a hospital, but never regained full consciousness. In a tragic post on X, which was shared on 20 July 2025 by Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, the eldest son of Prince Al-Waleed, who confirmed the passing of the Sleeping Prince.

Quoting a verse from the Quran, he wrote: “With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”

Prince Al-Waleed was engaged in the tragic car accident while attending a military college in London. He was admitted to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, following the accident, and has been in a coma ever since.

Things were so bad that the doctors advised the family to end the Prince's life support, but his father refused to give up hope. The family did everything they could, bringing in top specialists from across the world, for the Prince to wake up from the coma.

The father of Prince Al-Waleed never lost hope, as each year the family celebrated his birthday and shared his progress online when he moved his hands for the first time in 15 years. He died in the same hospital where he was being treated for the last 20 years.
