The annual Clover Mama Afrika assembly in Mossel Bay recently honoured its Mamas for their profound commitment to empowering themselves and their local communities. This prestigious occasion underscored the tireless work and unwavering passion each Mama Afrika demonstrated in developing new proficiencies through regular training and workshops.

The initiative actively encourages these inspiring women to foster growth within their various ventures and to expand opportunities for sharing their newfound expertise with fellow community members. The theme for this year’s accolades was 'Deeply rooted in strength, united in sisterhood,' capturing the spirit of the event.

Leading community figures receive accolades

Several outstanding individuals received specific accolades at the 2025 Clover Mama Afrika Summit. Mama Selistien Moses from Ashbury, Western Cape, secured the Clover Mama Best Business Award for her remarkable enterprise growth in 2024. Her Khayalethu Care Centre supports over 80 elderly individuals and more than 300 children, with business activities spanning bread baking, food gardening, and floral design.

Mama Nolitha Ndalasi from Khayelitsha, Western Cape, earned the Special Recognition Award for her exemplary community work, also receiving the Social Media Overlord award. With 15 years in local government, her Sinethemba Community Organisation assists vulnerable groups through a food garden, a kitchen for HIV/AIDS patients, and educational programmes. Her ventures include art, an egg-laying project, and beadwork.

The Entrepreneur of the Year honour went to Mama Rina Malan from Pretoria, Gauteng, for her exceptional performance across various project aspects. This successful businesswoman provides a safe haven for children in need, working with Social Services. Her projects encompass cooking, baking, food gardening, mosaicking, and glass beadwork.

Mama Gail Koeberg from Magaliessig, Gauteng, was named the Best Sewing Star, recognised for her professional sewing department. Mama Felicity Maluleke received the Best Mosaic Star award, lauded for her talent and continued dedication to caring for differently-abled children. A select group of Mamas were also named Clover Mama Afrika Ambassadors for 2025, acknowledging their consistent quality work, detailed reporting, and eagerness to learn new skills.

These ambassadors, including Mama Rina Malan, Mama Selistien Moses, and Mama Sipiwe Solomons from Hazyview, Mpumalanga, exemplify the project's values. Mama Sipiwe, a registered nurse and midwife, notably funded her dream by selling her home: providing a feeding scheme for orphans, hospice, and home-based care for 140 children.

The gathering was overseen by Prof Elain Vlok, previously the Manager of the Clover Mama A frika Trust. She conveyed her heartfelt congratulations to all the victorious Mamas. She also expressed her wish that they would continue their invaluable work of caring for those in need and spreading kindness throughout their communities. Prof Elain emphasised their role as true inspirations across South Africa, saying "They are beacons of light in the communities across South Africa."
