After one of Tyla's fans, a boy named Mollwane, asked her to be his matric ball partner, a request she fulfilled, it seems there is now a viral trend of eager matriculants wanting celebrities to accompany them to the event.

The latest is a boy named Kaone, who has his eyes set on record producer Uncle Waffles, whose real name is Lungelihle Zwane. However, another teen named Tshiamo is also trying to get the DJ to attend his matric dance.

Although Kaone has been vying for Uncle Waffles' attention since the end of June, it was his video posted on his TikTok account on 28 July, 2025 that blew up. The young man included his classmates in the clip, where they held pictures of Uncle Waffles in front of Kaone before dropping them to reveal him at the end.

The other pupil, Tshiamo, who attends a different school, had been posting about Uncle Waffles being his matric dance partner since early July. He also included his classmates in the mix.

Scepticism about Uncle Waffles at the matric dance

Thousands of social media users took to Kaone's viral post's comment section, with many stating that they were Team Tshiamo despite Kaone having made his request first.

@.danzel_ wrote under the post:

"Love the commitment, but I’m sorry, I support #TshiamoWaffles4MD."

@issy_lowkeytall asked in the comment section:

"What about Tshiamo?"

@eraof_kaylin jokingly stated:

"Hey, I'm her manager, and she won't be able to make it as she is going on tour and needs to prepare for it."

@user369276254566 told the online community:

"Guys, in a polite note, just because Mollwane went to his matric dance with Tyla doesn't mean everyone should go with a celebrity."
