A major new shopping centre is on its way to Ntuzuma in Durban, with the R200 million-plus development expected to open its doors in 2027.
According to the South African's post on 24 August 2026, the Ntuzuma Mall, spanning 18 000 square metres, is being built in Ntuzuma G, Ward 42, and forms part of a wider push to direct investment and services into township communities. Shoprite and Boxer have been confirmed as anchor tenants for the centre, which will also include smaller line shops alongside the larger stores.
Beyond retail, the project covers roads, paving, landscaping and both internal and external walkways as part of the supporting infrastructure.
Ntuzuma Mall and eThekwini's development goals
The development was approved through the eThekwini Development Planning and Facilitation process, classified as a neighbourhood centre and retail development. The municipality has linked the project to its economic growth and job creation priorities, as well as its goal of more inclusive spatial development across the city.

The South African reported that AJ Property Holdings will serve as the development and leasing manager. The company recently completed Kingsburgh Junction in Amanzimtoti, another Durban-area retail project.
